Larry Smythe, JR., MA, EMT-P

Since 2003, Mr. Smythe has served as the Director of Emergency Medical Services, Transport, and Courier Services for Mercy Health Systems. In this capacity, his responsibilities include all pre-hospital and ambulance services for the 911 system and oversight of other operations related to an 11,500 annual call volume.

Over his career, Mr. Smythe has advanced with distinction through a number of roles in the emergency response sector, including Paramedic Coordinator for Sacred Heart Medical Center, Emergency Medical Services Program Manager for the County of Delaware (PA) Regional EMS Office, Flight Paramedic at Hahnemann University Hospital, and Fire Service Paramedic with the Philadelphia Fire Department. Prior to joining Mercy Health, he was Regional Director of Training/CQI and subsequently Division Director of Employee Services for American Medical Response.

Mr. Smythe is also an Adjunct Professor at Penn State University, a Volunteer Firefighter, and Assistant Fire Chief with East Lansdowne Fire Company.
