Dr. Rockart’s expertise is in industry dynamics, organizational change, and the design of organizational policies guiding repeated decision making – such as decisions about pricing, investment, research, and product offerings. His research combines statistical analysis of large data sets and mathematical modeling. His papers have appeared in Management Science, the System Dynamics Review, the European Management Journal, and the Strategic Management Journal. He serves on the editorial boards of the Strategic Management Journal, Strategy Science, and Organization Science.
Dr. Rockart has worked in strategy consulting for McKinsey and Company and in various roles in light manufacturing. Through field research he has developed working knowledge of several industries including magazine publishing, semiconductor manufacturing, and investment banking.
He has been a member of the tenure track faculty at London Business School, Duke’s Fuqua School of Business, and the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he has received awards for his teaching in both MBA and PhD programs.
He received his PhD and MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his AB in economics with honors from Princeton University.
