In addition to his role as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Campbell will also join CardioReady’s Advisory Board, which is comprised of leaders in medicine, business and law.Specializing in heart rhythm disorders, notably the prevention of sudden cardiac death in women, Dr. Campbell is currently a partner at Wake Heart and Vascular and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Leveraging his role as both a practicing physician and an academic, Dr. Campbell is a frequent guest on national news networks including FOX News, CBS, and Headline News Network. He also serves as the exclusive medical expert for NBC 17/WNCN in Raleigh, NC, appearing weekly to discuss various medical topics of interest.
“To have someone of Dr. Campbell’s caliber associated with CardioReady demonstrates our corporate commitment to having the best medical and academic minds informing the critical work we do,” said John Ehinger, CEO of CardioReady. “Our clients will greatly benefit from Dr. Campbell’s forward-thinking leadership in heart health, and in particular, his focus on women. With vast knowledge and experience, we believe that Dr. Campbell not only complements the current strengths of our Medical Board but more, adds an important new voice to our discussions in how we can better serve organizations and help to prevent deaths from SCA.”
Sudden Cardiac Arrest accounts for more than 300,000 deaths in the United States each year. Research continues to show that the chances of survival can increase from eight percent or less to more than 70 percent if an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is used within three minutes of collapse. Costs for implementing AED programs and proper training are now modest, which is leading to a new standard of safety and care not only being employed – but expected – in professional and public places.
Regarding his appointment, Dr. Campbell commented, “I am honored to become part of the CardioReady team as I believe in the work of this organization. Through education, awareness and preparedness we can use AEDs to save lives in the communities in which we all live. CardioReady closes an important loophole in SCA preparedness through its Certified Cardiac Emergency Response Programs (CERP), which ensures that there will be both an optimized, functioning AED on site and the right number of trained employees ready to use the AED should the need arise. My own professional work dovetails perfectly with the mission of CardioReady and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together to help further raise the survival rate related to SCA.”
